The pole of the sundial loses its function in rainy days. So I make the second moving element as the pole changes to an umbrella to protect the area underneath.

FIRST TASK

This is the Place called 'Zhang Yuan' that I discovered by accident when the GPS lead me to a commercial plaza. All buildings surrounded are very modern and commercialized. I find the architecture here is interesting because it is the only traditional 'Nongtang' left in that area. It is with beautiful classical color and structure for an old traditional Shanghai 'Nongtang', but also some western element was also been added to it.
When I am feeling curious and walking through it, I heard some old residents are chatting with each other in Shanghainese about when they going to move. I search about this place on the internet and find out it is the largest and with most abundant architectural forms' building group in Shanghai. But because of the development of economy, it becomes clearance area now.
Zhangyuan was built in 1882, it was a luxurious garden. Both imitate western-style garden and building, also keeps some Chinese element into the design. Lots of stories and historical events happen in here until 1918. It starts to become a housing estate and the building breaks down to small apartments.
